Academic Computing Fellowship

In 1987, Penn State established an innovative fellowship program in computing applications. The program is for doctoral students who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents and have a background and strong interest in computing applications within their disciplines. Through their participation in the program and the utilization of computers, the Academic Computing Fellows help develop and disseminate new methods for problem solving within their disciplines.

Fellows are awarded a $17,000 stipend plus payment of tuition and fees. In addition, a $2,000 grant is provided to each fellow for such activities as travel to national conferences. Fellowship appointments are for a maximum of three years, with funding for continuation each year contingent upon performance in the preceding year and availability of funds.

Faculty members are encouraged to contact prospective applicants. Formal nomination for the fellowship award are made by the academic unit after it has certified the suggested research area, ensured the availability and interest of an appropriate faculty member, and ensured that the necessary administrative support such as office space will be provided to the fellow.

Application forms are available online as a PDF file or in 313 Kern Graduate Building.

You may need to download a free copy of the Adobe Acrobat Reader plugin to view the PDF file.
