University Park -- Rear Admiral Villforth Receives Distinguished Alumni Award
John C. Villforth, ’52, ’54g, retired Rear Admiral with the United States Public Health Service, was among eight Penn State alumni who received the Distinguished Alumni Award at the awards presentation on June 3. Rear Admiral Villforth was nominated by the Graduate School to receive this prestigious award.
Rear Admiral Villforth has received numerous awards for his professional accomplishments and has been recognized as a distinguished public health leader. His tireless dedication to public health ultimately led to Surgeon General C. Everett Koop naming Rear Admiral/Assistant Surgeon General Villforth as Chief Engineer of the U.S. Public Health Service. Although retired from government service, he remains active as a public health advocate and serves on several boards involved in health-related programs, including regulatory compliance and non-profit educational organizations.
In 2002, the Penn State Alumni Association honored Rear Admiral Villforth with the title of Alumni Fellow. For the related story, visit http://www.gradsch.psu.edu/av/honored/fellows/af2000/villforth.html.
